Special events are often defined by the entertainment. The question about entertainment then becomes; what type of atmosphere should this event portrait? Live music lends so much more reality and intimacy to an event then using a DJ or pre-recorded music. So when the time comes to book a band these afore mentioned concerns and ideas can guide the decision making process. Sometimes booking a band means dealing directly with the band members.
This can be an advantage because when describing the event and the type of venue the chance of details and requirements will not get lost as it might when hiring the band through a third person like an agent. Additionally when interacting face to face with band members a feel of who they are and gauging their enthusiasm about the event can be a great indicator of their performance. The choices of music and time constraints, highlights of the event and the music that will accompany them are part of the “to do” list that should be provided to the band. Finally all the requirements for the band to adhere to can be laid out in a contract to include the particulars of the event, the expectations from the event coordinators and of course the cost.
